Welcome to Texas Flight Medicine and the office of Russell R. Smith, MD, FAAFP! Dr. Smith is designated as a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner, enabling him to provide FAA Class I, Class II and Class III Medical Certification examinations. We offer medical services designed to help pilots navigate Medical Certification for complex medical conditions such as diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, hypertension, thyroid disorders and many other medical conditions. Our services emphasize prevention of illnesses and we promote the overall health of pilots in an effort to maintain healthy aviation careers. As a licensed pilot, Dr. Smith has the background and experience necessary to help guide pilots through health issues that could impact their aviation careers.

In addition to traditional FAA Medical Certification Exams, Dr. Smith has been designated by the FAA as a HIMS Aviation Medical Examiner. Through the HIMS program, Dr. Smith is able to sponsor pilots who have complicated medical issues that would otherwise prevent them from receiving FAA Medical Certification.
